BMW 5-Series Touring (2010-2017) running costs and reliability

BMW 5 Series Touring running costs are excellent if you choose the right version – the 520d offers the best running costs thanks to its low emissions of 135g/km CO2 (for the six-speed manual) and claimed average of 55.4mpg. This is also thanks to BMW’s simple but effective Efficient Dynamics that includes stop/start, optimum gear shift indicator and electric power steering.
It all adds up to make the 5-Series Touring extremely competitive against its rivals.
BMW 5 Series Touring emissions are fairly low – especially when it comes to CO2. BMW’s Efficient Dynamics helps lower both C02 emissions and fuel consumption, and arms the 5 Series Touring with not only greener credentials than executive 4x4s and MPVs, but also makes it very competitive to its immediate rivals.
BMW 5 Series Touring reliability provides absolutely no cause for concern. BMW always features well in reliability surveys and is a firm fleet favourite for not breaking down. The previous model proved extremely sound though there were a couple of recalls regarding brake servo assistance and rear axles, and some owners have reported minor glitches plus some high mileage diesels required the injectors and turbo chargers to be replaced.
This is to be expected on any car and BMW has gained a strong reputation for producing quality cars that are built to last.
