In their own words

Having owned 6 differing bmw 3 series over the past 20 years, this is my first 5 series and it’s a quantum leap in terms of comfort and refinement. The ride and equipment levels are excellent. Build quality is very good. My only criticisms are the headlights: I previously had adaptive xenon headlights on my 335 which I loved but the led manual lights on this 5 are poor in comparison. Other criticism is the speech recognition. Useless and stopped using it but not missed as it’s something I’ve never used before. With the lockdown mileage has been limited, but have managed some long journeys and they are effortless and swift. The 540i has an excellent engine and the gearbox is silky smooth. Economy is very good and I’m pleasantly surprised having just had two 335d’s xdrive m sports. The noise levels are far better in the petrol. The sport mode is laughable: the car just morphs into this fast express. Even the seats tighten up. The model I have is pretty much top of the range with a lot of packages: i just love it and being a touring makes it super useful. A big plus was that I bought the car new with 10 miles on the clock, but was registered so used. It was loaded and the price I negotiated was a deal maker. Overall 4.5 out of 5 with the lost points for the headlights and that awful voice stuff. I’d have another in a heartbeat.
