BMW 6-Series Convertible (2004 - 2010) 645Ci 2d Auto Owner Review

In their own words
Having had many BMW's I wanted to upgrade my 3 series convertible so went for a 6 series as I loved the spec, size and V8 engine. Bought a used, low mileage 645ci auto that seemed a good buy. How wrong could I be. First two coils failed. Replaced all 8 and seemed to be ok. Then as the days got cooler I noticed a slight misfire. It gradually got worse till the check engine light came on. Turns out even though I had just 65,000 miles on the clock (service history and MOT's to prove mileage) my eccentric shaft and values had worn (known bmw alert for 2004 model) bmw refused to repair or even do a good will gesture. Paid £3000 to repair, and during this repair second issue occurred. The timing chain tensioners failed (another known bmw alert) £6000 later, and I had a car that still wasn't right.. finally the car broke down again (intelligent battery sensor fault) and at which point I replaced it and sold the car. i hope that the latest owner has better luck but with BMW build quality I doubt it. I was horrified to find out the 6 series gearbox sump is made from plastic! Why would you make a component that gets hot and cold regularly from plastic? They generally fall and leak after 70,000 miles! It's put me off BMW's for life. If you insist on getting a 6 series don't get the V8 petrol variant!
