There’s no Euro NCAP crash-test result and there isn’t likely to be – the safety organisation rarely tests cars that cost as much as the 7-Series. That said, it is exceptionally well equipped on the safety front and BMW is confident that it would score five stars. All cars have dual front, side and curtain airbags, anti-whiplash head restraints, Isofix child-seat anchor points, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, stability control and traction control.

Security is taken care of with a Thatcham Category One alarm system with remote control and engine immobiliser. Those who find themselves locked out of their car can use BMW Remote Services, who – on answering a number of security questions – will unlock the car remotely.

As well as plenty of room inside for both front and rear passengers, the 7-Series is blessed is a very large boot. At 500 litres, it’s capable of swallowing a family’s luggage with ease and compares favourably with similar cars from other manufacturers. Other touches inside the cabin include an air conditioned glovebox and a variety of cubby holes.
