BMW i5 Touring verdict
Should you buy one?
Yes, and not just because there’s currently not many all-electric posh estates. It takes the already very accomplished i5 and adds a bit more space and practicality. It does feel a little bit more top-heavy than saloon in the bends, but it’s not like many will notice or indeed care.
The i5 Touring is certainly better to drive than the Mercedes EQE, and while not as sharp as a Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo, it is significantly more practical. As good as the M60 is, we’d stick with the cheaper eDrive40 and add a few options to really make the most of the interior’s luxury feel.
We do wish there were physical controls for the heater though, and the range and efficiency lags the Volkswagen ID.7.
What we like
It feels a cut above the EQE and Teslas inside, and the longer roof gives it more headroom than the saloon. Performance is strong enough in the 40 and seriously rapid in the M60, and it drives better than most rivals. You’ll need to add some of the clever suspension tech for the best ride and handling, though.
What we don’t like
It’s a long, wide car that can feel intimidating in tight situations, although the rear-steering helps. We’d also like a few more physical controls for stuff like the heating, and the range and efficiency could be better.
