Should you buy one?

If you’re in the market for a luxury EV, the i7 should be right near the top of your list. Yes, it’s expensive before you’ve even raided the options list and rivals can go farther, yet the i7’s opulent interior and impeccable driving manners more than make up for it.

It certainly trumps the slightly disappointing Mercedes EQS, although those who enjoy driving briskly will be better served by the Porsche Taycan. Capable as the i7 is, it just isn’t as agile or entertaining as the Porsche. It is, however, a much better luxury car.

What we like

Passenger space is truly plentiful, and the boot is a generous size, too. Performance is more than adequate, but it’s the ride comfort that really impresses when you’re on the road. As for the interior, it feels more luxurious than the EQS and S-Class and is starting to challenge Bentley and Rolls Royce.

What we don’t like

Apart from the fact we can’t afford one, efficiency in the winter isn’t particularly good and the range isn’t as good as the 450+ EQS. We’d also like to see a few more physical controls for the heating and radio instead of the hoards of touch-sensitive ones.
