Should you buy one?

If you’re looking for one of the best electric SUVs, the BMW iX is an excellent place to start. It’s a worthy SUV flagship in BMW’s EV line-up, with its distinctive design and luxurious interior making it feel like nothing else.

The latest 2025 update has helped to keep the iX at the top of its game, with a significant improvement in electric driving range and extra performance always welcome, and all for a fairly small price increase.

Our advice is to skip the more expensive xDrive60 and M70 models and stick with the basic entry-level xDrive45 model as this should be all the car you would ever need if you’re looking for an electric SUV. We would, however, recommending speccing the twin-axle air suspension for £2,050 for maximum comfort, and it’s a shame this isn’t standard.

What we like

We love how the iX drives. It’s a big electric SUV but drives with a level of precision rarely found in this class, and its comfort and refinement are outstanding, especially when riding on air suspension. The interior quality is superb, too, and the material quality makes the iX feel luxurious. The big improvement in electric range also gives it one of the longest ranges of any electric SUV – only eclipsed by the Polestar 3.

What we don’t like

The BMW iX’s boot is quite small and narrow for a car of this price, and you really need to watch the options list as the price can quickly skyrocket. The exterior design won’t please everyone and it is quite spec-dependent and can look quite cheap in entry-level trims on the standard alloy wheels.Â
