What are the running costs?
The all important range and charging. BMW claims the iX1 20e will go up to 293 miles on a charge and the 30e 272 according to WLTP testing, although we’d knock around 50 miles off if you’re on national speed limit roads. Thankfully the car’s range predictor is pretty accurate and takes into account your driving style effectively
While it’s competitive when compared to the Mercedes EQA and Audi Q4 e-Tron, the Tesla Model Y can go even farther on a single charge.
The iX1 is capable of up to 130kW charging speeds, meaning it’ll take 29 minutes to charge from 10-80% at the types of chargers you’d find at motorway services. The 66kWh pack will take around 11 hours to charge on a typical 7.4kW home wallbox.
Servicing and warranty
There are several servicing plans on offer, including an option where you pay for the first four years worth of services up front or instead pay monthly.
The iX1 comes with a three-year unlimited mileage warranty that includes breakdown cover. Other car makers offer much longer warranties, but most come with limited mileages.
Reliability
- BMW doesn’t have a stellar reputation for reliability
- Some software could be glitchy
- Engines used in other BMWs
The iX1 is still very new, so there haven’t been any official recalls yet. We’ve encountered no problems with the infotainment on our test car, but have on other BMWs using the same system. Software updates usually fix anything like this.
