BMW iX2 verdict
Should you buy a BMW iX2?
If you’re looking for a compact and premium electric SUV, the BMW iX2 is worth a look. It generally feels like a high-quality product and is excellent to drive, especially if sportiness in particular is what you’re looking for.
We suspect that the entry-level version will be a better option for most drivers, and the iX2’s range isn’t especially impressive.
If you do a lot of miles, we’d be tempted to go with the Tesla Model Y instead, owing to its longer range and easy use of Tesla’s brilliant network of Superchargers.
What we like
This new X2 feels like a much more substantial car than its predecessor. More space in terms of seating area and boot volume makes it a far more credible option for families, while the onboard technology is among some of the best in this class. BMW’s established driving manners make the iX2 quite enjoyable to drive.
What we don’t like
Though subjective, we don’t like how the X2 looks – especially the rear which looks downright awkward and not coherent with other BMW models. The ride quality could be improved, though that’s an issue shared with almost all its rivals. It’s also expensive, and the level of standard equipment is a bit stingy. Our test car cost around £65,000 with options, and that’s a price it just can’t justify.
