BMW X3 (2011 - 2017) xDrive20d M Sport 4d Step Auto Owner Review

In their own words
Even the base model of the X3 is very highly spec'd inside - significantly higher quality materials than in the 320d I replaced it with. Lots of room inside, easy to drive, and distinctly luxurious in terms of feeling was its positives; fuel consumption, cost of tyres and servicing, and the harsh ride quality were its negatives. I'd have one again but only if I could afford the running costs, and it was an SE version or had the Adaptive Suspension option, if it was an M Sport model.
How reliable do you find the car?
The EGR valve failed within the first month of ownership and was replaced under warranty (the EGR cooling system was also replaced under recall about 2 years after the replacement). Rear brake discs and pads were completely worn by 37000 miles.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Based on BMW's issued fuel consumption figures, I was expecting better than 35 mpg on average - I was aware that manufacturer's figures at the time were all highly optimistic, but to be 20 mpg down was highly disappointing. The ride quality was atrocious: M Sport suspension, 19" wheels, low profile run-flat tyres made for a harsh, thumping, twitchy ride. Wish I'd got one with the Adaptive Suspension option.About their car
