BMW Z3 Roadster 1.9 2d (1998/R) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
Cheap at the time.
Costs
Costs very little as I'm in the trade and service it myself.
-
On the road
Performance
Not the quickest around, but the handling is excellent now and it was very good before. Traction control sorts out excessive wheel spin in the wet.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Pretty good, the only problems I've had was some alarm failing when I first got it, and it failed an MOT on a leaking front damper plus the rear plastic screen leaked when I got it.
Comfort
Good seating (leather) combined with air conditioning, very good considering its a rag top.

Security and Service
Security
Standard alarm/immobiliser parts available from main dealer at reasonable prices. Bonnet switch can be a pain, causing false alarms sometimes. Disconnect or replace it if its a problem. The system still arms correctly.
Service
Never bothered with main dealers as I do it myself.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
None, which is good as it's had a particularly 'hard' life being thrashed up and down the M25 regularly.
Other
Oh yeah, one of the seat motors failed because a child's school book kept it permanently jammed on until it burnt out.....65 quid from a dealer.
Ownership
Did you buy the car new?
Used
Would you buy the same model again?
No
Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?
Yes
