It's back to business as usual at the top of the new car sales charts, in September with household names clinching the top spots. The previous two months had seen a shake-up at the top of the charts with Hyundai making a surprise appearance.
However, the Korean manufacturer has been struggling to keep up with demand and with fewer cars in stock was unable to register as many cars in September as the likes of Ford and Vauxhall could. It means that the Ford Fiesta is September's best selling car followed by the Vauxhall Corsa, Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra and Volkswagen Golf. Small cars dominated the Top Ten, with the Peugeot 207, MINI, Toyota Yaris and BMW 1-Series making up four of the final five places.
Overall sales showed an 11.4 per cent rise on 2008, with scrappage accounting for 21 per cent of these sales. Although an improvement on last year, new car sales remain 12 per cent down on 2007.
