The stylish new Alfa Romeo Giulietta will cost buyers less than a Ford Focus when it goes on sale in July.

Entry level 1.4-litre petrol models in Turismo trim will start at just £16,995, that's £800 less than the cheapest Focus 1.6-litre Style model.

There will be three petrol engines and two diesel versions available. Starting off the petrol range is the 1.4-litre petrol option with 120bhp followed by the same size engine with 170bhp, while the range-topping petrol choice is the 235bhp Cloverleaf edition that will do the 0-62 sprint in 6.8 seconds.

On the diesel front is the choice of a 1.6 JTDM-2 engine with 105bhp while a 2.0 JTDM-2 with 170bhp will be the top diesel offering.

The Giulietta gets plenty of standard equipment including air-conditioning, electric front and rear windows, LED front and rear lights, six airbags and stop/start (although this won’t be available on the Cloverleaf model.) Three trim levels will be available, Turismo, Lusso and Veloce.
