Lexus has launched two voluntary recalls in the UK which affect the IS, GS and RX models.
Owners are currently being contacted by letter to advise them to take their vehicle to a dealer for the necessary repair work to be done.
The first recall affects the brake master cylinder fitted to IS, GS and RX models built between February 2003 and November 2005 and affects around 15,400 UK vehicles.
Lexus has found that the seal between the brake master cylinder may leak fluid into the brake booster. If this happens the driver will be alerted to the problem by the low brake fluid warning light after which the brakes will continue to function for approximately 200 miles of regular driving.
The repair involves the replacement of a small seal and a check for any fluid contamination in the brake booster. If any contamination is found, the brake booster will also be replaced.
The job will take approximately two hours to complete, at no cost to the customer.
The second recall concerns the wiring to the fuel pump on GS 300 models built between September 2004 and February 2006 and affects 2,081 cars in the UK.
The wiring may stretch over time, consequently breaking, which causes the fuel pump to shut off and the engine to stop. Again Lexus knows of no reported accidents as a result of this issue.
Owners who believe their cars may be affected by the issue should contact their local Lexus dealer in order to find out more about the recall. Lexus has apologised for the recall but stresses that the risk of any failure is very small.
