Smart has announced a special edition model to celebrate ten years of UK sales.

Dubbed the Smart Fortwo gb-10 edition, only 100 cars will be produced and each will get a range of upgrades over the standard car.

Each one will be finished in silver metallic paint, and will be identifiable by the red design which starts just behind the front wheels and sweeps backwards following the lines of the safety cell.

The cars get Brabus touches such as 15-inch wheels, LED daytime running lights, an LED third brake light and a gearknob/handbrake combination with a gb-10 logo stitched in.

The heated leather seats also get a logo on the headrests, and are finished in fetching red leather which also adorns the door panels, knee pads and handbrake gaitor. The dash is covered in black alcantara with silver highlights surrounding the instruments.

Standard equipment includes a satellite navigation system built in to a Pioneer stereo, electric windows and a panoramic sunroof for the hardtop cars.

Eighty hardtops and 20 cabriolets will be built, each getting a commemorative plaque denoting the build number.

There are two engines available: a CDI diesel unit producing 54bhp and 85.6mpg, and a MHD (micro hybrid drive) unit which returns 71BHP and 62.8mpg.

Smart plans to release 50 hard top cars and 10 cabriolets with the MHD engine, while 30 hardtops and 10 coupes will get diesel power.

The gb-10 will be officially unveiled at the Smart Festival this year on September 4.

Prices will start at £10,965.
