Volkswagen has announced prices for the new Touareg which is available to order now ahead of deliveries in October.
Prices start at £38,225 for the SE 3.0-litre TDI 236bhp while the Hybrid model, which goes on sale in July, costs £54,995.
Despite being 40mm longer both in its wheelbase and overall length, the new Touareg weighs around 200kg less than the outgoing car and is 20% more efficient.
The most popular versions in the range are expected to be the 3.0-litre V6 TDI and Hybrid models. The 3.0-litre 236bhp is capable of returning 38.2mpg while emitting 195g/km of CO2 to place it in VED band J and an annual car tax bill of £215.
The Hybrid model can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 6.5 seconds through its combination of a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 TSI petrol engine developing 328bhp and an electric motor generating 46bhp resulting in a total output of 374bhp. It returns 34.4 mpg while emitting 193 g/km of CO2.
A new 4.2-litre TDI V8 engine producing 335bhp completes the range. It returns 31mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 239g/km of CO2.
All new Touareg models have a new eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox.
There are four trims: SE, Altitude, Escape and Hybrid. On the entry-level SE model, leather trim, touchscreen satellite navigation with DAB radio, six airbags, dual-zone climate control and four-wheel drive are all standard.
