Renault was founded in 1898 by Louis Renault and his brothers Marcel and Fernand, who rapidly built themselves a reputation as a manufacturer of successful racing cars. In the early 1900s the company became known for its innovative approach including mass-production techniques.
The French company has built cars that have had a major impact in the UK including the small Clio hatchback and the Espace, often credited as the first people carrier. Renault has launched other versions including the Scenic and the Scenic XMOD.
The company caters to many customers with a wide and varied selection of cars. Its Renaultsport range is aimed at those interested in performance and handling such as the Megane Renaultsport, while its electric cars such as the Zoe and Fluence cater for buyers more concerned about economy and the environment.
Renault has also innovated with small cars including the Captur, a compact crossover, Twingo city car and the electrically-powered, two-seat Twizy.
