Toyota is one of the world’s automotive giants and manufactures a massive amount of products each year in its factories all over the world. There are two major UK facilities; a plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire, that builds cars and another in Deeside, North Wales, which builds engines.

Toyota’s range in the UK includes the Aygo, Yaris, Auris, Verso, GT86 sports car, Avensis, Rav4, Hilux and Land Cruiser. It also builds hybrid cars such as the Prius, which uses petrol and electric motors to help reduce emissions and improve fuel economy.

The company started in 1937 as a spin-off from Toyota Industries, producing its first car, dubbed the AA, a year before. Since then it has gone on to sell huge amounts of cars. In particular it sold over 30 million Corollas, which made it one of the best-selling cars in the world.

Toyota also has quite a pedigree in motorsport. As well as a history in Formula 1 it has huge involvement in several Japanese racing series’ and has developed cars for the Le Mans Endurance Series as well as the World Rally Championship.
