Volkswagen is launching a new approved used car scheme designed to give second hand car buyers extra peace of mind.
Essentially it's an extended car warranty scheme for Volkswagens with less than 100,000 miles on the clock.
It's called 'Das WeltAuto', which literally translated means "The World Car", and it's a global initiative operating in VW dealerships throughout the world as well as the UK.
The scheme includes a minimum 12-month component warranty, a 30-day/1,000 mile 'no quibble' exchange promise, and a full car check to verify the vehicle's history.
The company says that all cars included in the scheme will undergo comprehensive testing and reconditioning and will be prepared to a 'Volkswagen standard'.
Customers can also choose one extra from the following list:
- One year's Volkswagen Roadside Assistance free of charge
- Three years' MOT protection free of charge
- MOT tests for life of car free of charge
- £100 worth of accessories
- £100 off a used car service plan
A spokesman for VW said: "This is not a temporary programme or a new name for the same old scheme; it's a long-term commitment to make the used car buying experience as close to the new car experience as possible. It also broadens the range of vehicles available on forecourts and enhances the choice available to customers."
Buyers will also have the opportunity to add number of approved accessories including alloy wheel upgrades, parking sensors, cruise control, satellite navigation and Bluetooth/iPod connectivity. The prices will include VAT and fitting costs.
The scheme was trialled for a year in 21 Volkswagen dealers in South West England and South Wales. It will be rolled out to the rest of the network over the next few weeks and officially goes live on Good Friday (April 22).

Don't forget that you can always buy a second-hand car warranty to protect your car and give you peace of mind, if it doesn't already have an existing warranty.
