They might not be the most attractive thing to research, funnels, but they’ll save a costly spill on your garage floor if you have the right one. Parkers have been looking through the best tools to ensure that no matter your project, you have what you need to complete it.

When it comes to filling fluids in your car, anything from washer fluid to brake fluids, spilling it is not only a waste of money on lost product, but it can also get all over your car and garage floor.

Yes, you can get an empty engine oil container, cut it in half, and you’ve made yourself a makeshift funnel. What happens if the container you want to get fluid has a smaller orifice than your big engine oil bottle? You’ll spill it everywhere, lubricating the engine on the outside instead of the inside. A good funnel (or a selection) is a must.

The best funnels

Best Big container funnel

Can’t get any more ‘does what it says on the tin’ than this. At 25.5cm wide and 16.5cm long, it’s a big funnel, and it even has a removable filter to keep any unwanted objects out when decanting.

Pros

  • Big
  • Removable filter

Cons

  • Perhaps overkill for smaller jobs
Size: 25.5cm x 16.5cm
Material: Plastic

Best branded funnel

Price: $44.47
A three-litre funnel from Draper has a dust cap cover for when you’re not funnelling, perfect for stopping dust from entering a container where it’s not wanted. This cap makes the funnel opening smaller than other options, but the quality of the polypropylene construction will be second to none.

Pros

  • Respected brand
  • Big capacity
  • Attachable nozzle

Cons

  • Dust cap makes funnel hole smaller
Size: 230mm/3litres
Material: Polypropylene

Best multipack of funnels

Sometimes a bunch of different funnels is what you’ll need. No orifice too small, no container too big, this pack of six funnels will help you keep spills to a minimum and keep the garage floor nice and tidy. There’s even one with a flexible spout for even better versatility.

Pros

  • A size for every hole
  • Removeable filter in the largest funnel

Cons

  • Storage could be a concern
Size: Various
Material: Plastic

Best multiuse funnel

A decent-sized funnel from Drapers which can be rolled to fit almost any orifice you need to pour fluid into. Its size makes it very convenient to hold as you pour. Over £20 for a piece of bendy aluminium is a bit steep, though, even if it is wrapped in a nice vinyl.

Pros

  • Respected brand
  • Nice design
  • Durable

Cons

  • Expensive for what it is
Size: 12 x 4.5 x 10.2cm
Material: Aluminium

Best valve switch funnel

If you need to be precise with how much liquid you’re funnelling in, something like this might help you get the job done. With an open and close tap and a few different nozzles, you can get the right fit and amount of fluid where you need it to be.

Pros

  • Accurate
  • Different nozzles
  • Easy to control

Cons

  • Not a recognised brand
Size: 19.05 x 19.05 x 24.89 cm
Material: Not given
