The best bladeless fans for your home, garage and camper van

  • Choose a bladeless fan to keep you cool this summer
  • Bladeless fans also make less noise and use less energy than conventional units
  • Choose from tower or tabletop designs

While it’s common in the warmer parts of the US, most homes here in the UK do without air conditioning. Air con is a common feature in most cars but in larger vehicles (like campervans) they can become rather weedy once summer properly begins. That leaves you a sweltering mess if you don’t find another way of keeping cool.

Bladed fans are the most common way of keeping cool because they’re lightweight, cheap and relatively effective. Problem is, they’re also infuriating. The blades get coated in dust quicker than an antique shop’s inventory and they pose a legitimate threat to small fingers and pets. They’re also rather loud, especially when you’re trying to sleep.

The alternative is to invest in a bladeless fan, also known as an air multiplier. First showcased by Dyson (as a consumer item – the original concept dates back to 1981), these fans offer the same or even better cooling functions compared to a bladed option.

Often a small price premium over bladed variants, bladeless fans are more efficient, easier to clean and pose no injury threat. You can even find examples fitted with filters for helping allergy sufferers. If you’re trying to beat the heat this summer why not invest in one and keep cool and stress-free.

The best bladeless fans

The best bladeless fan for a campervan
If you’re heading on a campervanning holiday this summer a fresh source of air will prove invaluable as campervans can get incredibly stuffy at times. A full-sized bladeless fab will eat into valuable space so a small, tabletop option like this one from ULTTY is your best bet. It’s both lightweight and portable while the included HEPA filter should keep allergies at bay. The oscillation is adjustable as is the fan speed and the included remote is a nice addition (although its lack of battery is annoying).

Pros

  • Portable but powerful
  • Perfect for nighttime use
  • Air purification

Cons

  • No battery included for the remote
Filter: HEPA
Noise: 32 decibels (sleep mode)
Weight: 173 g
Extras: Remote control, portable design, oscillation
The best bladeless fan for your home
Are you still working from home? Keeping cool while working will probably necessitate a good quality desk fan, but they can be loud and throw dust around, not ideal. This small fan from Dyson should keep you cool with its precise airflow and the HEPA filter will ensure that you’re not left sneezing during those work calls. It also features a 70-degree setting, sleep timer to stay cool at night and a visual reminder to empty the filter.

Pros

  • Exceptional quality
  • Air purification

Cons

  • Expensive
Filter: HEPA
Noise: 56 decibels
Weight: 2.8 Kg
Extras: Remote control, portable design, oscillation
The best bladeless fan for small spaces
If you’re short on space but want some proper bladeless cooling, this super skinny option from ULTTY will help you stay cool. It’s a very adjustable option, with three power modes (strong, natural and night) and nine-speed modes. It does lack a filter however which is a pretty large drawback but the payoff is that super thin design. There’s no battery supplied for the remote, a real irritant.

Pros

  • Stylish and slimline
  • Good at cooling

Cons

  • No supplied battery
  • No air filter
Filter: None
Noise:  N/A
Weight: 4.51 Kg
Extras: Remote control, sleep mode, oscillation

A more affordable option for cooling a room down, this bladeless tower fan from Dreo is still an excellent choice and our top pick for working in the garage this summer because it’s affordable, well made and will take up next to no room. Featuring six speeds and three modes, it’s easy to find the perfect setting for you. It does lack an air filter which limits its use around the home and it’s also fairly heavy, not good for portability.

Pros

  • Exceptional quality
  • Powerful cooling power

Cons

  • No air filter
  • Heavy
Filter: Activated charcoal
Noise: 48 decibels
Weight: 5.4 Kg
Extras: Remote control, oscillation

A very unusual and personal bladeless option, this neck fan sits on your shoulders like a necklace and blows cool air into your face via 60 outlet slots. There are four settings and the lowest should give you 21 hours of runtime. It’s simple to use, lightweight and adjustable, but it’s also quite the novelty.

Pros

  • Very personal cleaning
  • Long battery

Cons

  • No air filter
  • A bit of a novelty
Filter: None
Noise: N/A
