Company Car of the Year Winner: BMW 330e

Best Company Car Award in partnership with…   Fleet News

The needs of company car drivers are many and varied – and any carmaker that can build a model that’s at the heart of what business users need is doing very well indeed. This is a tightly fought award, but our winner – the BMW 3 Series in 330e form – offers low running and taxation costs, desirability, reliability and is also a joy to drive.

With the previous model being a past Parkers Awards winner, the latest BMW 3 Series continues the trend, taking the spoils to become our Company Car of The Year 2021. It manages to blend its smart looks with an entertaining driving experience and low running costs. The 330e plug-in hybrid offers affordable BIK costs with its 39g/km CO2 output and good fuel economy from its petrol engine. That’s not all, though. Thanks to its special XtraBoost function, this efficient car is also capable of being a very fast one for 10 seconds at a time. It may not be the sweetest 3 Series to drive in the range but it’s still far more rewarding than its immediate rivals, and one very desirable company car.

The Model 3 is part of Tesla’s long-term goal of bringing sustainable energy-powered transport to the masses, by bringing fresh thinking to the family car market. With the established BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 firmly in its sights, it’s more affordable than previous Teslas – and the upshot is that sales have really taken off in 2020. Like the larger Model S, the Model 3 is quick in all of its forms but if you’re after the cheapest version, the Standard Range Plus is where you need to head, producing a very green 0g/km of CO2 and claiming to do 254 miles on a full charge. The quirky styling and divisive interior may not suit everyone, but the Model 3 is capable, likeable and good to drive, offering a raft of charging options.

The Skoda Superb has always been a good-value alternative to an Audi A6 or BMW 5 Series for Ford Mondeo money – and that continues into 2021. But in addition to offering lots of metal for the money, the stylish Superb is also available as a tax-efficient plug-in hybrid, making it a great choice for company car buyers. Updated for 2020, the latest Superb benefits from an updated interior and infotainment system, and some visual tweaks to give it even more of a premium feel. These tweaks mean that the Superb gets the nod over the excellent Volkswagen Passat GTE, with which it shares so much under-the-skin technology, making it an excellent and tax-efficient company car.
