Here’s your first look at BMW’s next MPV – the 2 Series Active Tourer. It’s set to feature the firm’s latest software operating system, come with petrol and plug-in power options, and start from £30,265. Deliveries are set for March 2022.
Below, we delve into the details…
What’s new about the 2022 BMW 2 Series Active Tourer?
Quite a lot. It sits on new underpinnings, meaning it’s grown by 32mm in length and 24mm in girth. This results in more headroom, shoulder room and kneeroom.
On the outside it receives BMW’s imposing new grille and an altogether new look that’s clearly been inspired by the new BMW iX.
What’s it like inside?
Customers will be able to choose from five trims including aluminum and eucalyptus wood – as well as a redesigned control panel.
BMW has packed the 2 Series Active Tourer with an optional ‘Augmented View’. This means you get an augmented reality sat nav. Instructions, like which exit to use, are displayed on the windscreen in front of you, as well as on the infotainment screen.
The infotainment is new too. Front and centre is a curved display loaded with BMW’s Operating System 8. Made of a 10.25-inch information display and a 10.7-inch control display, it’s the centrepiece of the interior.
What engines are available?
From launch there will be:
> 220i (1.5-litre petrol) 168bhp, 0-62mph in 8.1 seconds
> 223i (2.0-litre petrol) 215bhp, 0-62mph in 7.0 seconds
> 218d (2.0-litre diesel) 148bhp, 0-62mph in tbc
Summer 2022 will bring an additional two plug-in hybrids equipped with BMW’s latest-generation e-Drive tech. A seven-speed Steptronic ‘box comes with all models.
What models and trims are available?
> 220i – £30,265
> 223i – £32,715
> 218d – £31,820
When does it go on sale?
First deliveries are scheduled for March 2022.
What this means for you
Despite selling more than 430,000 units, the 2 Series Active Tourer has always been a niche car. MPVs are few and far between on UK roads.
But like with the current model, the availability of a plug-in hybrid model keeps things fresh. The new interior looks great. That alone might be worth the upgrade for hybrid-loving MPV-buyers out there.
