The Skoda Epiq is the latest addition to the ranks of the rapidly growing ranks of budget-priced electric cars. The Czech firm has lifted the curtain on its £22,000 supermini-sized SUV, with a claimed range of 250 miles, that you’ll be able to order before the end of 2024.
Despite still being in the design study phase, the Epiq promises to deliver chunky styling, practicality, and efficiency at very competitive price point. Positioned to rival upcoming models like the Citroen e-C3, Renault 5 E-Tech and Volkswagen ID.2, as well as larger competitors such as the BYD Dolphin and MG4 EV, the Epiq stands out for its compact size and generous 490-litre boot capacity.
Inside, the Epiq boasts Skoda’s usual Simply Clever features, including a floating centre console with wireless phone charging, ample storage options, and sustainable materials throughout the cabin. The clean-looking interior is complemented by a large central touchscreen and intuitive smartphone integration, ensuring a seamless driving experience.
Sporting the firm’s new and distinctive ‘Modern Solid’ design language, the Epiq stands out thanks to its sharp lines, sleek detailing, and bold LED lighting elements. The Tech-Deck, a sleek black panel replacing the tradional grille and housing driver-assistance systems, adds a futuristic touch, while pronounced wheel arches and a sloping roofline accentuate the SUV’s atittude.
Built on the same platform as the upcoming Volkswagen ID.2 and Cupra Raval, the Epiq promises punchy performance and class-leading efficiency. With the option of two battery packs – 38 and 56 kWh – and up to 226hp, drivers can expect a 0-62mph time of around 7 seconds in the quickest model.
What this means for you
The Epiq signals the dawn of a new era for Skoda, with plans to launch six new electric models by 2030. From an entry-level city car to rival the upcoming Dacia Spring to an expansion of its SUV range beyond the Enyaq, the firm is committed to offering a diverse range of electric options.
With its blend of rugged style, practicality, and efficiency, the Skoda Epiq’s winning move might well be its eye-catching price. It’s also underpinned by Volkswagen’s latest EV technology, and poised to take to the fight to the influx of bargain-priced and less well proven Chinese-produced EVs that are about to go on sale across Europe.
