Chevrolet Camaro Convertible 3.8 V6 2d Auto (1999/T) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Excellent value. The car is extremely fast, powerful and impressive. It has all the look and feel of a true luxury sportscar, but it is very reasonably priced. Mine is black and looks just like an Jaguar XJR or an Aston Martin DB7, but rarer.
Costs
Big car, big insurance, big fuel bills, big repair bills - but no more than a BMW or Mercedes.

On the road
Driving
Really nice car to drive on the motorway, but doesn't corner well at speed. It's very fast and looks really cool, especially with the top down. The major flaw is that it's very low at the front and always hits the ground when going over speed bumps!
Performance
Pretty fast and reliable, but a true American gas-guzzler. Compare to Jaguar, BMW or Mercedes. Good acceleration but an electronically limited top speed of 125mph - you could get this delimited though...

Living with it
Reliability
A good American car is reliable if nothing else. They are built to do a lot of miles, so will last a fair while. The battery is 16 volt not 12, and has run down protection so starting should never be a problem.
Image
As I have said, has a Jaguar/Aston Martin look about it, so people think it costs the same. In the UK a Camaro is very rare so it is more of an eye catcher than most sportscars.
Comfort
Really comfortable in the front with all luxury features. A little tricky to get in and out of with the roof up and very little room in the back seats.

Security and Service
Security
Has a microchip key and factory immobiliser but I added a Clifford remote system. There is a handy switch to lock both doors in an instant.
Service
I can't really say much about Chevrolet as they are sadly not really represented in the UK - this is a bit annoying, but they do have a European helpline.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
The alternator started to play up after 65,000 miles, but this was fixed on warranty.
Other
I wonder what would happen if a window got smashed, because no one local is going to have any glass ready to fit; the car could be waiting for two weeks until something was done.
