Chevrolet Trax safety has been awarded five stars in testing by Euro NCAP. That’s no surprise, as it’s closely related to the Vauxhall Mokka, which has also been awarded five stars.

This continues a strong record for the company; since 2011 all Chevrolet models have scored five stars overall.

All Chevrolet Trax models come with six airbags as standard, along with stability control and ABS.

LT trim also adds Hill Descent control, helping keep things on an even keel when exploring the car’s (limited) off-road capability.

Based on the Vauxhall Mokka, it’s no surprise that Chevrolet Trax practicality levels are almost exactly the same.

Leave the rear seats in place and the Trax can carry 356-litres of luggage, though this can be increased to 785-litres with the seats folded and stowed luggage kept beneath the window line, or up to 1,370-litres to the roof.

And while those figures are outclassed by some of its rivals, as well as more conventional family hatchbacks, the good news is there’s more room in the rear for passengers.

There’s certainly enough space for a full-size adult to sit behind similar, with headroom being particularly impressive.

Ample sized door bins help add practicality and the double glovebox gives extra storage space – especially for smaller items. However, if you are using the MyLink connection with your smartphone, the upper glovebox will fill up quickly.

Still, at least the 230v socket in the rear is a useful addition, perfect for keeping portable devices powered and charged on the move.
