Six airbags, automatic activation of hazard warning lights, anti-whiplash headrests, three rear Isofix attachments, seatbelt pre-tensioners all come as standard. The Lancia Delta achieved a five star rating in 2009 from Euro NCAP and because this is a rebadged Lancia, we expect the Chrysler Delta to attain an identical five star rating.

One of the largest cars in the class, the Delta can certainly swallow a lot of luggage. With the sliding rear bench in its most forward position there is 465 litres of boot space, but if you slide the bench towards the rear of the car (as far as it will go) you will still have a load space of 380 litres. If you need a flat floor for those awkward objects, fold the seats down and you’ll get 1,190 litres of luggage room to play with.

The rear seats don’t just slide, they also recline 25 degrees backwards which is handy if your passengers in the rear fancy a snooze while traveling. There are plenty of handy cubbies, especially the small tray positioned to the right of the steering wheel. It’s extremely useful for storing change for the car park meter. When comparing to the Ford Focus (316 litres with seats in place and 1,101 litres with the rear seats folded), the Delta has more boot space.

The Delta also trumps the VW Golf when the seats are in place (it has 350 litres with seats in place), while this increases to 1,305 litres with the seats flat, giving the Golf a bigger load space than the Delta in this instance.
