Should you buy one?

Deciding whether the Citroen Ami will suit your lifestyle depends entirely on where you’re starting from. If you’re stepping into one out of a proper car, it’s slow, lacking in safety equipment, desperately impractical and rather uncomfortable.

However, it starts to look very attractive when you compared it to moped, scooter or a bicycle. You get a weatherproof protective cocoon, space for a passenger and room for luggage. It’s also small enough to zip around urban alleys and short enough to park in pretty much any space you can find.

It isn’t an attractive alternative to a car, but it’s a great tool for getting around a crowded city. You should get used to seeing these sorts of micro vehicles on the road, too. There are more on the way from the likes of Renault and SEAT.

What we like

The Citroen Ami is charming and easy to love. It’s also easy to park, swift to charge and small enough to take lots of the stress out of inner city driving. You won’t find anything else on sale that gets the same amount of attention from passers-by, either.

What we don’t like

The Ami is a fun urban toy. If you can only afford one car, we’d recommend opting for something a little more conventional. It’s also slow, very basic inside and lacking in safety features. The 46-mile range isn’t particularly long and it only comes in one colour.
