Citroën AX (1987 - 1997) 10 Debut 5d Owner Review

I bought my Citroën ax 1.0 debut edition (called odd) for £300 with a blown head gasket and spraying oil everywhere. I fixed it with only 3 different spanners in an afternoon and its since been the best worst car I've ever owned. It handles exactly how you expect on old Citroën to handle with all the body roll and almost no traction and no power. The previous owner put a full straight pipe exhaust on it and it sounds rediculas it just puts a smile on your face every time you floor it, which you can do everywhere because its fantastically slow and loud. I use it for my job delivering pizza in Ambleside in the lake district and let me tell you noone can get your pizza there faster its the ultimate delivery vehicle on those roads. It is also an unstoppable off roading machine in the recent snow I've been on as many legal gravel roads I can and its done things even my old jeep xj would struggle with wading through rivers and up to a foot of snow without breaking a sweat. It has never been stuck with everything I've thrown at it and then you can go back onto tarmac and embarrass people in hot hatches and supercars flopping about like a wet sock and lifting a rear wheel. It does still have a few problems what 30 year old frech car dosnt? Like you have to pump the brakes to make them work then if you press too hard the rears lock first and all the rubber in it has dried out and is cracking. Yet it has never not started off the manual choke and it even gets up to 50mpg if I try which I don't because it's just too much fun and shouldn't be allowed. I named it odd because it just is, its 1 of 11 of that spec ax left on the road it has yellow French safety lights a full straight pipe exhaust and even the antenna makes it look like a rc car tis just silly. To anyone else its a scary loud death trap but to me it's the best car in the world I love all its little querks and foibles there is no new car that even comes close in joy or character.
