Citroën AX 1.0 Spree 3d (1997/P) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Only had 3 problems with this car in 3 years of owning it. Bought it for £1,800 with 32k miles on the clock. It's had a new handbrake cable and driveshaft on both sides. Other than that, it runs lovely.
Costs
I'll assume best means running costs are good. Car never uses ANY oil, is very frugal on petrol and as previously mentioned maintenance costs have been very low. Can't knock it on that!

On the road
Driving
Steering is quite good but with a touch too much body roll. Future plans to drop it a bit. You really have to abuse these little things to get them to let go of the road!
Performance
What you expect from a 1-litre. Downhill with the wind behind it, fine. Uphill - slug on a salt bed. I didn't buy this car for its speed, it's small, cheap as hell to run, nuff said.

Living with it
Reliability
Only let me down once and that was through a snapped driveshaft. Always starts first time, never misses a beat, cracking little motor.
Image
As I said before, you aren't going to look cool in one of these little things. I suppose I could bolt some stuff onto it to make it look a bit nicer but at the end of the day it's an A to B motor. A nice looking little car, but no Trans-Am.
Comfort
Being 6ft 2 I do look a tad silly in this car. Plenty of legroom for me though, I've done 400 mile trips in this thing and my back actually ached worse when I drove an Audi once. Hardly a Rolls Royce, but does me fine.

Security and Service
Security
Mine is okay cos it has an immobiliser fitted in it. Other than that the door locks look relatively meaty, as with all cars a wrecking bar can get into the door though.
Service
Priced requested for timing belt change. Nearly fell off my chair when they told me. As always, dealer parts are horrendously overpriced.
