Citroën Berlingo Multispace (2008 - 2018) 1.6 HDi (90bhp) XTR 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
This is now my third Berlingo multispace, that says something about them, I keep buying them for many reasons. The versatility of this range is nothing short of phenomenal. I have had three seater sofas, washing machines, antique furniture and regularly take camping equipment in the back; in fact we have even camped in the back on some nights. I have even squeezed a passenger or two in the back while carrying some loads. These vehicles serve as amazing all rounders for heaps of purposes.
Comfort wise, the newer shape is far better that the older version, although don't be put off by an older one. If you tinker with seats and a cushion they are fine, we drove to north of Scotalnd regularly in the old version. The newer versions just have updated seats which make for improved comfort. Corning has to be done wisely as they are prone to roll, however, you do not buy these cars to drive like a sports car!
Economy is deligfulful and easy on the wallet for fuel and repair costs. The build quality is surprisingly strong; my partner and I can vouch for this as we were side impacted by a truck at 50mph in our first one. Despite broken ribs and a few cuts, bruises and generally being shook up, the air bags and sheer space in the car absorbs a lot of shock. We walked away and immediately bought another one based on many aforesaid factors but more so due to the safely factors of interior space. I do wonder if the safety testers take this into account?
I've driven many genre of vehicles in my 30 odd years of driving including VW, Volvo and Saabs. All renowned for safety factors and of which, I would not dispute. I'm keen on cars being safe and as such I personally recomend and trust the Berlingo.
It is a synchronicity for me to return to the Citreon family after many years of driving. My first ever full time job as a young anarchic punk rocking teenager was with Citreon cars in Sheffield. Ironically I was sacked for dinging a wing on a 2CV. If given the chance to work with them again, if only to wax lyrical about the marque, it would be done with fervour and zeal as my love affair with this marque is becoming quite a passion.
To summarise, if you are a savvy buyer, demand comfort, versatility and safety, give these amazing cars a look in, they do not disappoint!
