Citroën C5 Aircross verdict
Should you buy a Citroen C5 Aircross?
Yes. If you want a family SUV that majors on comfort, the C5 Aircross is well worth considering. It’s a great companion on Britain’s poorly surfaced roads and it’s refreshing to find an SUV that champions ride quality over sharp steering and dynamic prowess. We’d be tempted by the plug-in hybrid as a brand-new buy because it’s a very capable and tax-efficient package for a competitive price.
However, if efficiency is less important than boot space to you, the much more affordable Hybrid 136 is the one to go for. Buying an older C5 Aircross used, the 1.2 Puretech will do for most needs, but the diesel’s efficiency is great for regular long trips.
What we like
The comfort, unsurprisingly. Between the soft ride and excellent seats, the C5 Aircross is one of the most relaxing SUVs to drive at this price point. Boot space is highly competitive, it has flexible rear seats and houses three adults back there better than most rivals.
What we don’t like
None of the engines are particularly potent, so those with a need for speed (or towing ability) will be better served elsewhere. Rear space isn’t the best for tall adults, especially with the panoramic roof fitted, and the infotainment system feels a bit old fashioned.
