Citroën DS3 (2010 - 2015) 1.6 THP 16V (155bhp) DSport 3d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
This is a very blunt review; I enjoy driving, I've driven a lot of cars that I have either owned or driven through work, I spend a lot of time and effort choosing a car when purchasing a new one, I maintain my vehicles enthusiastically, I do average miles on a range of roads, I regularly drive both short and long distances for work purposes. Therefore, I can say with near certainty that this is and will be the most unreliable engine I will ever have the displeasure of maintaining. A list of issues is probably the easiest way to get my point across, all of these issues are separate incidents and in chronological order, I have owned the vehicle for 38 months, it has been off the road for approximately 12 of those months;
2 x timing chain tensioner failure 1 x coil pack failure Complete engine failure do to timing chain pulley shearing requiring new engine Complete engine failure due to catastrophic oil pressure loss and crack seizure requiring complete engine re-build Complete failure of Turbo Partial engine failure due to seized piston requiring engine re-build
Having researched this engine and spoken to numerous engine specialists following all of the above issues, I categorically advise no-one to ever purchase a car with this engine (this includes the derivatives in the Citroen DS4, Peugeot 208 and Mini Cooper/Cooper S). I have attempted to discuss these issues with Citroen UK but they continue to ignore my correspondence. My maintenance costs are now significantly greater than the original purchase price.
