You won’t need to worry about Citroen DS5 safety. With a total of six airbags as well as the addition of ABS, stability control and intelligent traction control and a lane departure warning system, the DS5 continues to cement Citroen’s reputation for building safe cars. The DS5 was awarded the full five stars for crash test safety from governing body Euro NCAP.

Another clever feature is the eTouch that automatically makes an emergency call if any of the airbags go off from an impact.

There has been some compromise with Citroen DS5 practicality in order to offer ample luggage space. With 468 litres of storage space available, expanding to 1,288 litres with the rear seats folded down, the DS5 offers around the same amount of boot space as the BMW 3-Series Touring. This has reduced the available room for rear passengers. The Hybrid4 model doesn’t offer quite as much room in the boot for bags as the electric battery has reduced the space by 143 litres, giving buyers just 325 litres.

There are the usual added compartments around the cabin including a good sized storage between the driver and front passenger. As is the norm with the French firms, the glove box is very small while the cup holders in the door partitions are in an awkward position and don’t allow for a 500ml bottle to sit properly – the design of the door means the top of the bottle is pushed out.
