Citroën Grand C4 Picasso (2014 - 2018) 1.6 e-HDi Airdream VTR 5d ETG6 Owner Review

In their own words
We bought this car when it was almost 2 years old with only 2000 miles on the clock. At the time we had a baby and a toddler and were impressed at its capacity to swallow all the buggies and prams we needed to travel with. It was very comfortable and economical with good performance given the size of the vehicle for such a small Diesel engine. Shortly after purchase I returned it to the dealer as I was sure the clutch was slipping. First they tried to tell me it was a sticking cable and it was sorted with some lubrication. The problem persisted so I returned it to the dealer and persuaded them the clutch was definitely slipping. They advised me it had been a mobility car and the clutch had failed possibly due to the way it had been driven by the first owner. They agreed to replace the clutch under warranty which sorted the issue.
The car was then relatively trouble free for almost 2 years.
Then when my wife was driving the car on the motorway the engine started to misfire and lost most of its power. She managed to coax it off the motorway and call the RAC. They diagnosed some electrical failure which they rectified by rebooting the engine management system.
All was well till February this year when it broke down again due to a broken fan belt. That was easily fixed and we were good to go once more.
In May this year it broke down again with the same symptoms as the time on the motorway a year earlier. This time the RAC guy was unable to rectify the issue. Our local garage found the problem to be an electrical problem with one of the injectors and sorted it with a replacement injector. That cost us £500. He also noted one of the wheel bearings was making a noise and would need replaced. All this and the car had only done 24000 miles!
Having had 3 breakdowns in one year we decided enough was enough and traded it in against a Honda CR-V which seems a lot more robust despite actually being older than the Citroen.
It’s a shame because when it was going well it was a truely delightful car and perfect for our needs. That said we won’t be buying another Citroen in a hurry.
