Citroën Saxo (1996 - 2003) 1.4i Furio 3d (00) Owner Review

Bought blindly via auction site without viewing and was very lucky on price! Cheap to run/repair and what a fun, reliable car its been the last 2+ years! Replaced back box within 5 months.New rear shoes and mid exhaust pipe a year later and thats all so far. It came with the uprated 185 alloys, which make this car real fun on corners! Comfort is ok, one of the better ones for a small car in its day. MOTs have been £143 (rear brake shoes/drums) and 2nd one was £79 including an oil change! Whilst its the pretender of old hot hatches with its VTS body kit, but the more economical 1.4 75hp engine, its ok to overtake, especially in 3rd gear from 40 - 65 mph. Other speeds/gears needs a bit more thought and longer clear roads. Engine seems quite water proof considering the weather and big puddles its been through....it doesn't miss a beat! People often say about the offset pedals, but my size 10s seem ok with them and nothing odd about it. My local garage says the Saxo is the easiest/cheapest car to repair, Citroen made. Seems true, going by an example quote of £100 total, to renew my cam belt and water pump when I need to! As classic old hot hatches, the VTS, VTR are around £1500 and rising for a decent standard one due to there being less than 400 of them left on the road. My Furio, less than 800 left on the road is also commanding somewhere around £900 upwards for a decent standard one! There are some which suffer peeling lacquer on metallic paint, on the roof/bonnet areas, but I still recommend to buy a clean one, have a little fun, but respect it as a small investment too!
