Citroën Synergie (1995 - 2002) 2.0 HDi SX 5d (7 Seat) (2000/W) Owner Review

Summary
What does this car say about you?
Well, we've tried to keep ours up to date looks wise by buying a silver version with all the colour coding, which helps. And we've blacked-out the windows, partly for appearance, partly when it's in kiddy mode it keeps the sun off. So it probably says 'I've got a hectic life, my car's a lifestyle choice'. Or 'I'm Mum's taxi'. Or I've had clients see the black windows and swivel seat interior and say 'CNN have arrived!'
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
They love it's practicality. Everyone bundles in. Family like the 'mobile lounge' feel - it's incredibly relaxed on the motorway and returns up to 50mpg. My wife has asked that we don't change it!
Would you buy this car again and why?
Yes. So much car packed into a small space. Wouldn't want the later versions as they're bigger, but don't offer any more.
What are you likely to buy next?
Same, but less miles.

Buying experience

Independent
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£4,500
When did you buy the car?
September 2005
Did you get a good deal and why?
Yes, we bought from a small trader, who we haggled down as the SH was not available at time of purchase, and we had to track it ourselves from the servicing dealer.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Versatility, HDi efficiency, looks, not just another Zafira/Galaxy.
What was the dealer like?
Pleasant, fair.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
I like it - big and boxy to throw around, but it's width gives it better cornering ability than you'd expect.
What's it like to park?
Initially scary, but when you realise it's shorter than a Golf Estate (see picture at http://citroensynergie.wordpress.com) we were parking it with ease after a few goes. It's all glass remember, no overhangs, no bonnet, just 4 corners.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Couple of things, but nothing compared to an awful Scenic we had, which was made of chocolate. Sliding door on n/s sticks. One of the two climate fans in the motor has packed up, leaving us for a flashing red dash light for 2 yrs, but climate all still works. Turbo pipe blew off underneath, was scary at the time (uphill fully loaded at 70mph, then suddenly no power) but was £32 to fix back on. Electric mirrors occasionally mis-time each other.
What's most practical about your car?
Removeable adjustable interior space, means you can drive a lounge, a bus, a mobile office, or a van. Brilliant unrivaled design.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Swivel seats, climate control, sliding doors, removable rear seats.
