Citroën Xantia Estate 1.9 TD SX 5d (AC) (1998/R) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Unfair reviews, myths and rip off garages badly affect residuals. This means good cars can be picked up for nothing, which isn't what I paid for mine.
Costs
Apart from servicing costs and consumables, either D.I.Y (yes it is possible) or independent Citroen garage, nothing.

On the road
Driving
Fair handling, never does anything unexpected. Remember it's a family estate, not a sports car and you won't go far wrong.
Performance
Good performance from what is now an aging diesel engine, fast and economical. Now eclipsed by HDI etc performance though. All round power disc brakes means fantasistic stopping too.

Living with it
Reliability
Up to now very reliable, however, a few problems have cropped up recently, central locking (faulty unit in passengers door) for one.The car is 7 years old and a few faults are to be expected.
Image
No better and no worse than any other estate in it's sector. Lacks the rather functional appearance of the Ford Mondeo, especially in SX up trim. If you want an image, spend more money.
Comfort
Very comfortable ride when compared with it's conventionally sprung competitors. However, drivers seat is not the best and can lead to fatigue over long journeys.

Security and Service
Security
Alarm, deadlocks, immobiliser and being a family estate means it's not a target
Service
Citroen need to address the apathy present in some dealers
