Citroën XM Estate 2.0i VSX Turbo 5d Auto (1998/S) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Very good value, but don"t expect to find any high quality, recent, low-mileage estates at the prices listed in this guide - you"ll have to pay quite a bit more.
Costs
Servicing can be very reasonable - but parts at dealer prices can be expensive (often double that of the same OEM parts) - and large jobs can be very expensive.

On the road
Driving
No other car in its class can match the progressive, surefooted, predictable handling with the limo-like ride comfort of an Hydractive II equipped XM.
Performance
Previous 2.0i 1993 XM lacked power and torque, the 2.0 Turbo CT is much better - almost as good as the V6. However, it"s optimized for torque not horsepower.

Living with it
Reliability
This car has bene flawless so far, but previous XM suffered two major failures during my four-year ownership.
Image
I think the XM deserves much better - but it gets little respect in the executive car-park - even for an estate.
Comfort
Seating and cabin adjustments are superb in VSX trim - air con, cruise control etc are hard to beat. Turbo petrol engine is pleasantly refined and quiet for an elderly unit.

Security and Service
Security
VSX has deadlocks and immobiliser, plus an alarm with ultrasonics.
Service
Helped to fund at least one major failure (outside warranty) on my previous XM.
