The 2.0 HDi diesel is the pick of the bunch. Strong power delivery, economical and reliable. The 1.4 HDi offers great economy, but needs to be worked hard. Petrol engines are fine, but nothing special. The 1.6 is the best compromise.
Ride and handling are poor. The ride is wallowy on smooth roads, but uncomfortably crashy on bumpy A and B roads. Bodyroll through corners is excessive, there’s little feel in the steering and the gearchange is notchy. But it’s easy to live with – the steering is light, making parking easy and the brakes are responsive.
