Citroën ZX Hatchback (1991 - 1998) 1.9 TD Aura 5d (1994/L) Owner Review

Summary
What does this car say about you?
Very smart to buy a reliable, economical car that runs on fumes at a time when fuel prices are going through the roof. You could also say that I was tight.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Don't know, don't care. All I know is that I've got a very good car for peanuts. I'd rather have a ugly car that never brakes down, rather than sitting in a "cool" car waiting for the RAC.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Yes. Too many reasons to mention. Cheap to run, reliable, comfortable, engines run for ever, mine currently on 168,000 and still like new. Did I mention it was cheap?
What are you likely to buy next?
Another Citroen ZX, but the 1.9 TD automatic estate.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Didn't buy from a dealer
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£400
When did you buy the car?
July 2006
Did you get a good deal and why?
The car was advertised at £500, but paid £400 due to being a cheeky git;)
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
I had read that they were cheap to buy, insure and run. Also has good reputation for reliability. So far it has proved to be true on all counts.
What was the dealer like?
It was a private sale, they were nice.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Superb to drive. This car has the same 1.9 TD engine that is used in the much larger Peugeot 405/406 and Citroen Xantia, so you can imagine what it is like when you stick the same engine into a much smaller, ligher car. Very fast, but also economical at the same time. It takes off when you put your foot down.
What's it like to park?
very easy due to being small. Power steering excellent. Plus it has an electric passanger wing mirror, which helps.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Utterly reliable. You know that when you turn the key, the car is going to start. I would drive anywhere in this car, and I would know that it will get me there and back.
What's most practical about your car?
Everything. It has a pull up sun blind on the rear window, and also has a handle on the back seat which makes it "lie back" so that passangers in the rear can sleep in comfort. Brilliant.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Not many of them, but does have an electric passanger wing mirror which is handy for parking. Electric windows and sunroof are also handy.
