Citroën ZX Hatchback 1.9i Volcane 5d (1992/J) Owner Review

Economy
Value
It cost me £500 2 years ago. Then again, it's cost me that again in bits.
Costs
Parts are cheap if you go to the right place. Try Europarts. Likes a drink though. Insurance isn't cheap, either.

On the road
Driving
Underrated. Doesn't look much, but it's quick(ish) and lift-off oversteer is there when you want it.
Performance
The gearing's all wrong. 1st and 2nd are too long, which means it's a bit slow off the mark, but once it's rolling, it's a genuinely quick car. Poor brakes. I upgraded to 16V brakes.

Living with it
Reliability
Crap. It's in bits as I write this. The block has a hairline crack. It's had the head off twice (today and for valve stem oil seals). Drive shafts, dampers, heater matrix (horrible job) bushes, etc.
Image
Depends what you want. Flash car? Not for you then. Understated? Like surprising people at the lights? Give it a look.
Comfort
Exhaust is noisey. Fine ride. Comfy Seats. I'm 6' 7" and fit in it.

Security and Service
Security
Not great. Ingnition locks wear.
Service
Varies with the dealer. Caledonia in Chester are pants. Speed Six near Wrexham are superstars.
