Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 35 - 64 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

  • Unsurprisingly, the diesel is the most economical
  • It also emits the least amount of CO2
  • Dacias have proved themselves to be reliable

What are the running costs?

The Dacia Duster is surprisingly cheap to run. It’s no more expensive than any of its contemporary rivals. The most economical engine is the 110hp 1.5-litre diesel engine mated to the six-speed manual gearbox. It has a claimed combined economy of 64.2mpg in two-wheel drive form, so expect to get around the mid-fifties in real-world driving.

The most eco-friendly engine in the Dacia Duster range is the also 110hp diesel. It emits 115g/km of CO2, but even with the EDC automatic gearbox it emits 116g/km, so you don’t have to compromise between manual and auto.

Reliability

The Mk1 Duster has proved itself to be a dependable little car. Just make sure you find a car that’s been well-maintained. These were designed to be cheap, throwaway cars when they were new, so owners haven’t always kept to the proper servicing schedules.
