Daewoo Nexia Hatchback 1.5 GLXi 3d (1997/P) Owner Review

Economy
Value
At the time I bought it it was a lot of car for very little money, but that works both ways as now the car has depriciated rapidly and I am unlikely to recieve a sum that would make me a happy man.
Costs
£60 for a back box on the exhaust after ringing around is too much. Some bits are cheap, some are not. Shop around and you won't be too disappointed.

On the road
Driving
It's ok to drive. Nothing thrilling, but I've driven worse.
Performance
Performance is fairly lively, especially if thrashed - but then it is a 16-valve twin-cam after all. Only problem is, you're always looking for a 6th gear when cruising 'cause 5th feels like 4 and a half!

Living with it
Reliability
Two years; new backbox, new clutch, one service. Fairly bulletproof so far. Haven't gone out of my way to look after it, yet it's always been fine reliablility wise. I've driven it abroad ok.
Image
If you're after enhancing your image, better park this one round the corner. Nexia looks ok when it's polished I suppose.
Comfort
Fairly comfy actually, especially as I'm very tall. That was one of the main reasons for buying it.

Security and Service
Security
Standard immobiliser gets it a point. Driver's lock sometimes seizes. I'd stick a visual deterrent around the steering wheel to sleep easier though.
Service
Daewoo went bust just after I got it and the garage where I bought the car hadn't paid their account with Daewoo, so Daewoo wouldn't release some parts I needed just after I purchased the car.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Oily residue seems to form on it, even though it doesn't need topping up very often.
Other
Some nasty creaking sounds when cornering sharply and a knackered air conditioning unit baffle me.
