Daihatsu Grand Move 1.5 + 5d Auto (1997/R) Owner Review

Economy
Value
cheap as chips! Even from a main dealer. With the spec of the car it really does represent great value.
Costs
Auto version mine anyway) averages about 30-35 mpg, not brilliant for a 1.5 but offset that against the cheapness of these things and its not too bad in the long run.

On the road
Driving
Good driving position, being slightly taller than your usual hatchback gives a better view of the road. Everything's to hand and the steering is light and the turning circle is excellent. Easy to park and the auto box shifts smoothly.
Performance
1.5 auto what can I say, the acceleration won't have you reaching for a spare pair of underpants! But then its not intended for that sort of thing.

Living with it
Reliability
Outstanding. Mines a 2nd car for dogs and fishing and I drive it, refuel it and that's about it, runs and runs.
Image
If your worried about image by a overpriced German estate car. Take off the rear badging and no one has a clue what it is!
Comfort
Very good, firm seats though fronts could of done with height adjustment. Smooth ride. Rear seats even adjust for recline. Never had any complaints from my dogs in the rear so can't be bad.

Security and Service
Security
Flimsy door locks and the immobilisers have a reputation for ease of bypassing. Get a decent alarm/immobiliser. This is probably why the thing is Group 8 insurance, though why any one would steal one I can't say.
Service
Never had to bring it to the dealers.

Central locking stopped, but this was due to an aftermarket alarm playing up.
