Daihatsu Terios 1.3 EL 5d Auto (2000/W) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Of course the cheapest 4x4 but you get what you pay for. Too many compromises.
Costs
Cheap servicing, but as an auto it is massively under-powered and therefore drinks almost as much as my 3.2 trooper!

On the road
Driving
High position is main benefit - helps me see others coming and them me! Important in Malaysia!
Performance
As mentioned, not enough power for the weight. Eventually settles at about 120k, but engine noise to get there puts you off. No acceleration to speak of, unless completely floored. Uphill... 'fraid not!

Living with it
Reliability
Can't complain after four years, once a model wide brake problem was sorted out. Some noises beginning to make themselves heard though.
Image
Certainly not the trendy one it apparently has in the UK. Seen chiefly as a car for young women or 4x4 wannabes.
Comfort
High seating position is generally more comfortable than normal cars (to me) but seats are totally shapeless, leg room cramped all around and narrow beam has everyone swinging around as if at the funfair! Long journeys, very painful on the back and knees.

Security and Service
Security
In Malaysia, standard security features are very limited - not desired by thieves anyway.
