Daihatsu YRV 1.3 Turbo 5d Auto (2003/53) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Bought at 7 months old for nearly £4000 less than new
Costs
Averaging 40 mpg with a mix of motorway and town driving and I don't have a very light foot! Insurance is very cheap, (cheaper than my previous smart car!). 2nd service is around £200, tax is £125 a year

On the road
Driving
Great to drive, ride is a bit on the firm side, but doesn't detract from the fun of the car.
Performance
Effortlessly quick! You hardly notice the turbo spinning up and can be breaking the speed limit before you even know it. Gives boy racers a shock, but you do need to be careful when pulling away in the rain.

Living with it
Reliability
One recall for the rear anti roll bar mounting (one snapped when driving) which was dealt with very efficiently by the local dealer. Other than that starts first time every time and nothing else has gone wrong in 16,000 miles.
Image
No image which means you can pick the cars up very cheaply. The 1980's style go faster strips on the sides do it no favours, but I love it all the same. Image is a subjective thing anyway.
Comfort
Seats are firm, but comfortable, space is good considering how small the car actaully is. Sliding rear seat helps to maximise passenger or boot space. Will seat 4 adults comfortably, although the ride in the back is a bit bumpy!

Security and Service
Security
Only a transponder immobiliser is standard, could do with an alarm, but not that bothered.
Service
Absolutely great. The dealership I bought the car from was brilliant. They dealt with the problem with the anti roll bar bracket very professionally. Sadly they are no longer a Daihatsu dealership.
