Daimler Saloon 4.0 V8 XJ Super 4d Auto (LWB) (2002/02) Owner Review

Economy
Value
It's expensive, but it is a luxury car.
Costs
Again, it's expensive to run, but that's a big, powerful engine you've got under the bonnet. And it shows in driving.

On the road
Driving
Quiet, refined and with a magic-carpet ride when driving smoothly, and a real joy on a good B-Road drive when the suspension stiffens.
Performance
An absolute marvel. An occasional treat for me is to slaughter the odd hot hatch at the lights-'That man in the Jag thinks he can beat m-Blimey' Snigger.

Living with it
Reliability
1st in the Top Gear customer satisfaction survey says it all.
Image
A 7-Series is vulgar, an S-Class says 'executive airport cab', and an A8 says 'dull, dull, dull'. A Daimler is, quite simply, aristocratic.
Comfort
Well, Daimlers have been the cabinet minister's choice for 20 years now, so you'd expect it to be good. Far, far more comfortable than an S-Class, with acres of wood and leather to enjoy, and all the creature comforts you'd expect of a luxury car.

Security and Service
Security
It's factory fitted with deadlocks, alarm and immobiliser, but I'm paranoid so I still use a steering lock.
Service
Main dealers are getting expensive now that it's out of guarantee. I go to an independent specialist.
