Dodge Nitro Station Wagon (2007-2009) boot space, practicality and safety
The Nitro hasn’t been crash tested by Euro NCAP but all cars come with traction control, electronic stability programme (ESP) and electronic rollover mitigation – a system that applies one or more brakes or changes the engine power to prevent the car from potentially rolling over. Other standard safety kit includes multi-stage front air bags, full-length side curtain air bags and an immobiliser.
Twin front, side and curtain airbags are fitted to the Nitro, along with electronic stability control and child seat anchor points.
The Nitro seems to fall short of luggage space with the rear seats in place at 369 litres – no more than in a Ford Focus. However, this increases to 1994 litres with the rear seats folded flat. The front passenger seatback also folds forward to help accommodate long items. SXT models come with a ‘load ‘n’ go’ slide out floor, which helps make loading heavy items easier plus stain, odour and fade-resistant fabric.
