Slip behind the wheel of the new DS 4 hatchback and you’ll be greeted by a refined and quality cabin.

The large panoramic windscreen can be seen elsewhere in other models, like the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, and it makes the cabin feel light and airy. Both the driver and front passenger have individual adjustable blinds and folding sun visors.

A total of 12 buttons have been removed from the centre console making the various controls and functions feel far less cluttered when you first settle behind the wheel.

The new seven-inch colour touchscreen system is easy to navigate around and fairly intuitive to use, although it doesn’t feel as modern as some of its rivals. There are plenty of decorative items around the cabin and overall fit and finish is very good, you’ll find very few low quality plastics lurking here.

You can choose to upgrade your DS 4 seats with Watch Strap leather which looks particularly upmarket, perfectly complementing the three-ringed infotainment display and trip computer behind the steering wheel.

DS 4 Hatchback comfort levels are a real highlight. Citroen cars of old have always offered impressive ride quality and the DS 4 carries on this trend.

The supple suspension effortlessly glides over big bumps and potholes in the road, while the large panoramic windscreen helps to shut out road and wind noise.

Be careful which size alloy wheels you choose though as opting for larger 19-inch rims firms up the ride somewhat – for optimum comfort we’d go for the 17-inch wheels.

Although head and legroom is plentiful for those in the front, it’s quite a different story in the back where adults will find it a bit cramped, not helped by the sloping coupe-style roofline which could leave six-footers uncomfortable over longer journeys. In complete contrast to the front of the car which is light and airy, the rear cabin is quite dark and gloomy too.

The seats are comfortable and supportive and can be adjusted for height to help you find the ideal position, the armrest and steering wheel can also be moved for optimum comfort.

There are a range of comfort features like dual-zone air-conditioning, cruise control and steering wheel controls which help make life easier on the roads.
